2007 Tour de Georgia - Stage 7

Yesterday was so much fun that today Kelly and I loaded up the kiddos and went down to Centennial Park to watch the final stage of the Tour de Georgia. I was amazed at the crowds today. I had heard that the crowds this year were smaller than in past [Lance Armstrong] years, but today the streets and sidewalks were flooded with fans. It was great to see.

Here’s a picture of George Hincapie pulling teammate (and overall GC winner) Janez Brajkovic towards the end of the race:

Hopefully the Tour de Georgia will be around for many years. However, as I learned in an AP story on SI.com today, the Tour is struggling to come up with sponsors and is not profitable for the year.

Today’s pictures begin here.

The family and I ventured out to Stone Mountain today to watch the end of Stage 6 of the Tour de Georgia. The excitement at the finish line was great — especially when it was announced that the Discovery Team was leading out George Hincapie for a sprint finish with only a few hundred meters to go. Georgie came close, as you can see in the picture below. However, in the end it was “Fast” Freddy Rodriguez followed by CSC’s Juan Jose Haedo.
