Extreme Resolution
I was pretty happy to get my hands on an 8MP Digital Rebel XT not too long ago. But today, I read about some folks doing gigapixel “extreme resolution” photography. In order to shoot these incredible photographs, the folks at www.xrez.com use a custom machine to take hundreds of overlapping pictures at precise angles. Then, they stitch the digital images together using dedicated software that takes literally days to process one large image. The result is one huge image over 100,000 pixels in width.
Click here to see a scaled down version of one of these images. Or better yet, stop what you’re doing and spend a few minutes browsing their whole site. You will not be disappointed.
